I have discovered using a single dark colored pencil, such as Prismacolor black or sepia, for sketching. It’s difficult to erase, so that temptation is gone, and I can easily add tones–something that’s much harder to do with ink. This sketchbook has Strathmore 80 lb. paper, and its medium grain works well with the colored pencil. I’ve resolved to use up all the perfectly good sketchbooks in my stash before buying another one.

The pencil sketch has a softer sort of style to it than the ink pen sketches have. You’ve really captured the fabric folds nicely, and the sparsity of the shading on the towel takes my eye directly to the area around the toilet paper roll and the corner of the towel.

Love the idea of finishing up all the stray sketchbooks before buying a new one. I could do well to join you in doing the same thing.
